The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Follows Mixed Feedback

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure notified employees about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a clearer game identity.

Ismailer expressed that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to address player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

This announcement echoes a comparable action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the complete content from the president's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to endure.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a more distinct identity.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the input to mind and revamped the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s ready to achieve its ambition to our audience.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the remarkable development you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Director of 31st Union. Following some time of discussions, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in receiving him in the coming days. We are all eager to continue observing the development of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.

The President

Experience of the New Leader

The appointee presently holds the role of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in various development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Details and Vision

Project Ethos was announced in last year alongside a community playtest. At the time, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative evolution on the style."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch states. "Take on the competition with new abilities, stakes, and obstacles that change every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Or go big, risk it all, and trust your squad can achieve the highest spot? The option is yours."

The game lacks an announced launch window or consoles, but enthusiasts can anticipate more updates as development progresses.
