Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
