Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
