19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former number one, has had a torrid period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally separating with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's first championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 victories at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters together, so to win a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six championship matches, comprising in that event previously this season.

The player's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

However the athlete has made changes in the past month, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the final five points to go ahead.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first tour title, gained dominance to push for a final set.

The opponent rescued four early-game break points in a tight deciding set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
